Further to my previous post, housebuilding figures are also available per district (Table 253 here). Here are the figures for Cambridge over the last three decades:
As you might expect, it’s a good deal lumpier than the national picture, though there are some common features – local authority housebuilding largely disappears after the 1980s, for example. But the really dramatic feature is the last decade – after Cambridge housebuilding dwindled gradually to an almost complete stop around the turn of the century, it has picked up with a vengeance since then. Last year in particular saw nearly twice as many housing starts as the previous highest year, 2003-04. Nevertheless, pressure on housing in Cambridge continues to be intense.
